Sherod’s Cabin

On our third day in Bakersfield, Emily left for her solo trip to Ireland, and Sherod and I left on a Brother/Sister overnighter at his cabin up near Lake Isabella. Steve was a sweetheart and stayed back at Sherod’s house with Charlie, and our kids.
As soon as we were settled in, we went on a hike for a few hours.

Soon after our hike, Sherod realized he had lost his glasses. While trying to find the glasses, he realized he also lost his car key. And while looking for the car key, he realized he lost his Airpods. We spent much of the rest of our time there looking for those three things. Sherod did eventually find his glasses, but not the key or Airpods. The next day he had to get a tow truck to take his car to the dealership way back in Bakersfield, and we had to get Steve to come pick us up. And as we were leaving, I realized that I had also lost my purse. It was nuts.
But we did have a great time! Time with Sherod is always awesome.

Bakersfield

As soon as we arrived in Bakersfield we went to visit my Grandma Waite. It was a sweet and lovely visit with her.
Then we headed over to Sherod’s place where we stayed for two nights.

Charity and Sam could not get enough of Sherod’s pool.

And I had to get a photo of this photo I saw on their wall.
My middle name is Lucina, after my Great Grandmother Lucina.

And Sam and Charlie got into a weird game of "See how long Sam can handle being bound and silenced." Sam killed it. And he won a giant box of popcorn for his efforts.

The drive from Big Sur to Bakersfield

California’s famous Coastal Hwy 1

There was a beach full of elephant seals. Many of them were playing together in the water and taking naps on the beach.

And we stopped at the Visitors Center of Hearst Castle. But we opted to not tour the castle.
