To: Amanda
This is a post for you Amanda. I LOVE YOU!!! It's a rare occasion when I dare to post something on the family blog. Thanks for sharing all of the photos.
I snapped a quick self-portrait in the bathroom. It's obvious who the photogenic one is in the family (hint: not me).
This isn't too romantic, but at least it's not sappy, right? Maybe one of these days I can post about polictics or some other controversial subject. Nah.
Good night to all.
Love you sweetheart,
Steve

hi everyone
We are in Moab Utah tonight. We went to Mesa Verde National Park today in Colorado as well as Four Corners, then headed here. I've got photos but blogger isn't working for me in that regard. So I'll post about it another day. Tomorrow is Arches National Park, then we go home to be with Steve for New Years Eve.

Our trip Explained
Here we all are on our trip. **Holy crap my smile is gargantuous. So I was trying to think of where to take my kids on a little trip. We had talked about going to Four Corners on our last trip. The kids were really intrigued with the idea of being in 4 states at once. So I decided to take them there and on the way go meet a new friend I have. I also want to take them to a couple of National Parks.
So today we just hung out in Grand Junction. I took the kids to a Dinosaur Museum that was fun, but didn't really compare to the one back home. Here's some images of that:
More for y'all later.

Notice the MP3 player on Eden. My kids are way more into their players than I thought they'd be. All of them.
It was a really kid friendly place. You can see that by looking closely at this picture below.
I also met my friend today and her husband. I got a photo of them, but I don't know if they'd be ok with me posting it as she's a private blogger and he's shy with cameras. This is the first time I've met her in person and she was even better in the flesh than online. Super cute little boys too. She's awesome and I have been grateful to her for our friendship. We have both been through similar baby heartbreaks this year and she's helped me with that and I've tried to help her as well. If she comments here and gives me permission to post her photo, I will totally do it.
More for y'all later.

Me again
So currently I am sitting in a hotel room with my kids in Grand Junction Colorado and they have Internet here. Very nice!
I wasn't sure if we'd make this trip because of all the snow lately, but things were looking good, so we up and left at 5pm tonight.
Just before I left, one of my old Young Women from when I was in a presidency 9 years ago let me know that a lady I use to visit teach in Provo passed away on Christmas Eve. I spent a chunk of my drive here thinking of her.
Leona was one of my very first visiting teaching experiences. Since then I have had many other really great experiences with visiting teaching, but she was my first. I ended up seeing her for a couple of years I believe. Maybe closer to 3 years. I think she was about 70 at the time. I am not sure. And I was 20. Her husband had just passed away and she lived alone. We had nothing in common. At first she was a tough nut to crack. It was strange. I decided to take her out to lunch to see if that would soften her up and it did. We had a great talk on the way to the restaurant and the rest of that outing.
Soon I was in love with the lady. We had so many awesome talks and we always enjoyed seeing each other. I didn't have a companion for much of that time that I saw her so things got pretty personal between us. There are a couple of conversations that we had that I will never forget and I have thought about many times since.
Well, we moved to Idaho and for years I tried to keep in touch with her and keep her in my prayers. When we moved back to Utah I thought of how I needed to see her. When I was sending off my Christmas cards I had this thought that she was either not alive anymore or was about to pass and I better get on it and go see her. Guess what, I didn't. And I feel so bad now because I missed out on a really special opportunity to say goodbye to her. I am such a loser!
Anyhow, I just felt like writing about that experience.
On another topic:
I have to say also to my sweet husband how much I love and appreciate him. Sorry we ditched you --I just don't want to be cooped up at home with 4 rowdy kids all week while they are out of school on vacation. We will have fun, but we will NOT be breaking the family rule. (Our "family rule" as we call it is: We are not allowed to have too much fun when we aren't all together.) We'll keep it at bay honey. Thanks for working hard to support our family. You have always done a fantastic job of providing for us. And your voice message I got on my cell phone while my service was down tonight, made my heart melt. I will listen to it again and again and try not to cry when I do. Thank you.
I love you.
And to the rest of you who have borne through some really boring and possibly even downer posts of mine, I'll try to pick up the mood later. Thanks for checking in and lending an ear so to speak.

On a Serious Note
Have you ever listened to a song like a million times and still hadn't gotten sick of it yet? Happens to me all the time.
I feel that way about these scripture verses I came across a few weeks ago too. I have been reading them over and over again and at this point in my life, they have never meant more to me. They've been highlighted for years. Even with the little red stars I drew around one of them in particular. Which is my scripture code for "I LOVE this verse!" But even when I highlighted them, who knows how long ago, they didn't hit home to me like they do now.
There's one special person in particular I want to share this with, but I hope this will help others too.
27 O then despise not, and wonder not, but hearken unto the words of the Lord, and ask the Father in the name of Jesus for what things soever ye shall stand in need. Doubt not, but be believing, and begin as in times of old, and come unto the Lord with all your heart, and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling before him.
28 Be wise in the days of your probation; strip yourselves of all uncleanness; ask not, that ye may consume it on your lusts, but ask with a firmness unshaken, that ye will yield to no temptation, but that ye will serve the true and living God.
My eyes water up just typing it. I love it. And not only that, I believe it with all my heart.

Mormon 9:21, 27-28
21 Behold, I say unto you that whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever he shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him; and this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth.***(That's the one with all my little red stars by it)27 O then despise not, and wonder not, but hearken unto the words of the Lord, and ask the Father in the name of Jesus for what things soever ye shall stand in need. It was a good one
Unfortunately very little of this Christmas got pictured. But we had a good one!
The kids enjoyed their presents. Jenny had asked how I manage to stay under $30 for each of my kids so here's what we did specifically. Each child got an MP3 player with a price tag of only $15 - great deal! They loved them! Even Becca. They also each got one kit of something that interested them. Celeste- Calligraphy, Jonah- Comics, Eden-Origami, and Becca-balloon animals each with just a $10 price tag and all of them a big hit with the kids. I was a balloon animal slave for a couple of hours. Finally we spent about $5 each on their stockings. That's it. They did each get $25 Amazon gift cards from G&G Waite and $15 cash each from G&G Bishop plus a candy bar. We used the Amazon gift cards to fill up their players with music as well as the online library to put books on them. The Church website had Primary songs too to download for free - so they are all set and have been walking around the house like their mom listening to something or other on their players all day.
They also got a few other fun little gifts from other people. So although we don't spend a lot on them, they certainly have enough to satisfy them.
Steve got me a great acoustic guitar which I am super excited about! And we got a few really nice gifts from both sides of the family from the people who had our names this year. Thanks so much guys!
I got Steve a few very random things that I took mental note of whenever I heard of any kind of mention in the past few months of something he was interested in.
But I also bought him a running watch that keeps track of distance, pace, altitude, calories burned, and all kinds of other cool little capabilities.
And here are all of your lovely Christmas cards you sent us on proud display. Thanks a lot everyone! Don't read into their placement on our pantry doors, we just put them up in any old spot as we received them.
Hope you all had a great Christmas too!

We won!
The prize for "Ghetto Christmas Tree of the Year"!
Do you not think we deserved it? You bet we did!!!!!
Cassy sent me an email with her "getting to know your friends" Christmas edition list with a request to respond likewise. I know some of you don't like these but I do. I love getting to know more about people and hope you like getting to know me too. So here goes. I'm not tagging anyone back, but feel free to do it too if you like. I'd love it. For those Tag Snobs, just ignore this post.
1- Wrapping Paper or Gift Bags? Both
2- Real tree or artificial? Real. But I do toy with the idea of a fake one. Thanks Memzy.
3- When do you put the tree up? First week in December

5- Do you like egg nog? When I'm feeling reckless
6- Favorite gift received as a child? Rollerblades
7- Do you have a nativity scene? Yes
8- Hardest person to buy for? Steve. He doesn't ever say he wants anything but a "hug and kiss" which I already give free of charge multiple times a day. He's no Andy Bernard.
9- Easiest person to buy for? My kids
10- Mail or email Christmas cards? Duh. Mail.
10- Mail or email Christmas cards? Duh. Mail.
11- Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Sounds trite but: No such thing-- any gift means you must at least care about me and that is a gift in itself. Srsly.
12- Favorite Christmas movie? It's a Wonderful Life
13- Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Absolutely.
14- Favorite thing to eat on Christmas? Crap I don't usually let myself eat -all day.

21- Favorite ornament theme or color? Did you see my white trash tree???
22- Favorite food for Christmas dinner? I'm a side dish girl cause I don't eat meat for the most part. Rolls, salad, mashed potatoes, stuffing...
23- What do you want for Christmas this year? A guitar. (::saw one under my bed!!! Steve needs a better hiding place::)
24- Christmas morning tradition? We always would eat breakfast beforehand then mom and dad would unveil all the goods while we posed for a picture of excitement and shock on our faces. I try to do the same with my kids.
25- What do you leave for Santa? A big pile of jack squat.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!

Some more random details on our life
So how do you know if your 9 year old daughter is in love with the boy across the street?
Clue #1: She goes outside without being asked to shovel the front walk and driveway.
Clue #2- She goes out there to shovel the front walk and driveway in an outfit like this:
Yeah, she changed into a dress and put a crown on . Case closed.
And a few people have asked me for an update on Celeste lately. I mentioned how terribly moody she's been a while back. Let me answer that by just saying I bought this book for her and told her I'd pay her $15 bucks to read it ASAP.

I've never read the book, but I figure she'd have to learn something from it. She agreed to read the book but said she wants to finish reading "Jane Eyre" and the 7th "Harry Potter" book for like the 4th time before she reads Dr. Laura. I hope she gets done quickly!
And speaking of books, I think I am in love with this author and series.
Chris Stewart is a genius! I'm reading the 6th and final book in the series "The Great and Terrible" and he already had me in tears at page 30-something. The first book was ok. The second book in the series was better. The third book and on rocked! He's an LDS author and the series follows a group of people from the premortal life and up to the 2nd coming of Christ.
In other news-
Jonah had a big night the other day and was awarded his Wolf badge as well as a couple of arrow points and a belt loop. It was pretty exciting for him and we were proud! At Thanksgiving they had the tables decorated with some of these really cute pumpkins. We were sent home with one. The kids wanted to make a pumpkin pie with it so we did. I love making pumpkin pies from scratch, but it is time consuming and a lot of work, so I hardly ever do it. This time I decided to teach the kids how to do it. It was pretty fun!
What's Happening
So I stopped blogging for like 12 days and since my odd post last night amending my previous declaration, I decided I better give you all a real update.
I joined a "Health and Fitness Challenge" a few weeks ago and it has been great. It was all stuff I pretty much did anyhow, but when it's put in a contest arena, it makes it more fun. My sister Emily is my teammate and so far we are doing great. Anna is heading up the challenge and there are 18 of us involved. Mostly people in Anna's ward.
I also joined a gym again finally and have been getting my butt kicked at their awesome classes. Anna goes with me and she can attest to that. The 5am ones are the most hard core but all of them are great. I had never taken a class before where these were used: Not just used, but used with tons of reps and trying to keep up a rhythm to the music, benching, curling, shoulder press, you name it. It's nuts. And I'm getting stronger. I love it. I've also ran half marathon distances again recently and that's gone well. To top it all off, I've been dieting for almost 3 weeks now and I've nearly gotten all my vacation weight off. That is like record time for me!
And since snow is such a hot topic in Bloggersville, here's a little image I took about 10 minutes ago out my front door. We've been getting lots of this stuff too.

Along the same lines, I have to put these images up. Each morning I drive my kids to school. The school is only 3/4 mile away and in our subdivision, but I still drive them now. I don't want them to freeze their little tooshies off walking. Anyhow, I LOOOOOVE the view we get every morning of the sunrise. Check it out.
That's the lake there too. This image below was taken at the same time, but of the view a little further North. The mountains just stretch all around us. Gorgeous. The school is the buildings you see right in front.
And here is Becca with Santa Claus. Our three oldest children already know the truth about Saint Nick, but Becca is still a believer. So she was the only one patient enough to wait in line to sit on his lap.
This is Eden with her little singing group the "Rising Stars". Anna is their director and she is AAAAMAZING! You should have seen their performances, I was super impressed. Eden is on the front row on the far left. Blythe is 2nd to the right on the front row. Micah is in the middle in the back. (cousins)
We have had a couple of fun Family Fun Days. Here's a couple of shots at the museum a couple of weeks ago at the hats in history station.
And for the remainder of my post I will tell you about the doctors visits we had the last couple of days. If you have a weak stomach, I recommend you sign off at this point.
So about 2 months ago we noticed that Becca had bad breath. It gradually got worse and worse. It smelled like an animal crawled down her throat and died. No kidding! Then it seemed to just kind of emanate from her whole body. Steve would want to give her multiple baths and we'd brush her teeth and she just kept stinking. Other people were beginning to notice it. Behind her back we would joke around and call her "Halitosis Girl" and we would talk about how this was going to be the perfect way for her to stay chaste in her older years. Boys wouldn't have wanted to go near her. We were not being the nicest parents were we? I've repented.
Finally Anna says to me that I should go get her checked out. She said it may not be halitosis. So that very day I thought she was right, I should go get the girl checked out. It has been at least a couple of months now and it did seem to be getting way out of control. So I took her in to the pediatrician on Tuesday and the first thing he asks is, "Does she mouth breath?" Yeah, actually she does. He tried to get her to close her mouth and breath out of her nose. She couldn't do it. My mind was racing. So he lays her down and looks up her nose. Something was in there. He goes and gets some surgical equipment and comes back. Then he starts pulling all kinds of crap out of her nostril. It was NASTY! I was like puking in my mouth. The smell was horrible. He found a huge chunk of this stuff:
That's her mattress pad that she apparently had not only ripped apart, but shoved up her nose long ago and it began to ferment. Then he found clumps of something else. I couldn't tell you cuz I don't know. Finally when he thought he was all done, he took one final look then pulled out a folded piece of either paper, a band aid or something like that that was fairly large too. I was freaking out! So she is all better now and she doesn't stink at all. We are so relieved that is over and I feel bad it took that long before I took her in to see what was wrong!
Lastly, yesterday Jonah was out front playing with a golf ball. He was trying to see how hard he could throw it on the ground. Why? Don't ask me.
Lastly, yesterday Jonah was out front playing with a golf ball. He was trying to see how hard he could throw it on the ground. Why? Don't ask me.
So he threw it really hard, it bounced back and hit him in the mouth. He knocked his front top tooth nearly all out. His permanent tooth! I immediately rushed him to the dentist and they tried to put it back in.
His teeth went from looking like this:

I said I wasn't going to post till Jan, but...
I guess I lied. Or at least I changed my mind.
But I didn't lie when I said "I was not mad." I think every girl has her moments of insecurities which can sometimes result in a little bit of hurting in the chest - but lets not mistake that with anger. And my moment of insecurity is 100% over! SERIOUSLY. I am completely at peace with the whole silly situation.
We all know that word spreads like wildfire sometimes as we have learned from experience. And sometimes the word isn't even correct. So to set the record straight, I will say it as clearly as I can:
I was not mad at anyone. I am currently not mad at anyone. I am not hurt about anything. I am not sad about anything AT ALL anymore either. (The little bit of hurt I had felt was very short lived and was my own fault.)
Now I'll say those same words in Czech:
Nebyl jsem naštvaný na nikoho. Já jsem v současné době není naštvaný na nikoho. Nejsem o nic bolet. Nejsem smutná asi vůbec něco už taky ne.
Now I'll say it in Danish:
Jeg var ikke vred på nogen. I øjeblikket er jeg ikke vred på nogen. Jeg er ikke ondt om noget. Jeg er ikke trist over noget som helst længere enten.
How about French?
Je n'étais pas fou à personne. Je suis pas fou à personne. Je ne suis pas mal sur quoi que ce soit. Je ne suis pas triste de rien du tout soit plus.
Now to America's 2nd language:
Yo no estaba enojado con nadie. Actualmente estoy loco, no en nadie. No me duele nada. No estoy triste por nada más tampoco.
Let's try Pig Latin now:
Iay asway otnay admay atay nyoneay. Iay amay urrentlycay otnay admay atay nyoneay. Iay amay otnay urthay boutay nythingay. Iay amay otnay adsay boutay nythingay ATay ALLay nyomreay eitheray.
Ok, I'm not sure if I got the Pig Latin right.
Finally lets do blogger lingo:
Hey gize! Woa Wha! It's totally cool. Lets not get flanky about things. It's freakin lollerz and I heart you gize. Srsly.
So to most of you out there you are gonna read this post and be like "What the heck???!!!" And that is totally ok. Don't lose sleep over it. You may wonder what has gotten into me. It's a long story and totally silly and the people who I want to understand it totally should... I hope. If you don't understand it, then you are off the hook.
Love you gize!
ps. I love the IGoogle translator tool I found on the internet tonight. You'll have to check it out. It's so cool!

Christmas Break
I've been thinking...
I am going to take a break from posting on my blog or making comments on other's blog until January 1st I think.
Don't ask me why because I wont tell you and because it's complicated.

Don't ask me why because I wont tell you and because it's complicated.
And don't go assuming it's because of you.
In the meantime,
Merry Christmas

I told you I love gay people!
Here's the proof I love gay people. So Memzy put this on her blog and I had to steal it. It was just too funny. My Dad and brothers are on a cruise right now. And they invited Steve and my brother in-laws along. I guess Steve will be totally kicking himself now for missing out.

Final Installment
So we are now at Day #6 of our vacation.
The kids and I spent the first part of this day finishing up our drive to Boise. We made a few stops as soon as we got in town. First we visited Megan and her new beautiful baby girl. Then we saw Tara Sims and her family. (A sweet lady I visit taught for about 2 years.) Then we scoped out our old house.
After that we visited the cemetery. They fixed it all up. They put in new iron fencing around the pond with a fountain in the center. This is the nice new view standing from Benjamin's grave. Benjamin's grave looked nice with the Fall leaves all around it.

The day ended with dinner and a birthday celebration at Steve's parents. Many of his siblings and their families were there. We celebrated the November and December birthdays in the family.
Steve flew into Boise late that night.
Day #7 was Thanksgiving!
Here's the spread. We had dinner at a church building because it was many of the Swenson Family there and that's too much to fit in anyone's home. The Swensons are Steve's Mom's side of the family.

Here are Celeste, Connor, Sammie and Eden getting ready for the big family photo.
And here's that big family photo. Told you there were lots of us there.
Day #8 we had a Swenson Family temple trip to do a lot of family names. I did initiatories and enjoyed that a lot. The Hodges were sweet enough to watch our kids for us and Steve ended up having to do a service call for work.
That night I got to go out to eat at the Cheesecake Factory with Aunt Mary, Cousins: Amy, Erin, Jenny, Sara and Katie. And Landee and her sister came too! It was great finally meeting Landee. I ate myself sick.
Steve and the kids went to the movies with the Bishops while I went out to dinner with those ladies.
Day #9 and final day of trip we packed up and said good bye to Steve's parents. Then we went out to lunch with some of my old Young Women and fellow YW leaders. Oooh how I love and miss these girls and ladies!
And that's all folks for the vacation posts!

Confirmation
Two vacation posts today everyone. I decided not to drag it out too much longer.
Day #3 of our vacation started with a drive to Ventura to attend church with Scott and Molly. (Steve flew back home that morning.) There in Sacrament Meeting Scott was confirmed. It was a nice confirmation. Afterwards we saw their really cute house by the beach.
We quickly took the kids over to the beach before the kids and I headed back to Bakersfield.
Here's Scott, Molly and their great dog Rasta. This is my kids minutes after my order to not to get in the water in their Sunday clothes.
Look at Jonah's pants. The girls are wet too but it's hard to see it in their velvet dresses.

We left pretty quickly after I realized, they weren't going to be able to stay out of the water.
But I got some photos real quick first.
Day #4 of our trip: I spent most of it in bed with the stomach flu. But this was a blessing in disguise. Remember how I told you how much weight I gain on trips? Well, I had gained nearly 10 lbs. on this 9 day trip! I'm already working hard to get that off, but it surely will take much longer than 9 days to get it off. I am confident that if it weren't for this one day of the stomach flu, I would have come back at least a few lbs heavier. See the blessing in that?
Day #5 I spent the day driving to Winnemucca Nevada with the kids. It went well. It was about a 10 hour trip. We listened to a book almost the entire time and it was quite entertaining. "Leah and Rachel" by Orson Scott Card. It's not a children's novel, but my kids loved it for some reason. They listened intently and got upset if I stopped it for a moment. I enjoyed it too. We stayed in a Motel that night.
Days #6-10 to hear about tomorrow.

That will be my final travel log installment. I bet your glad for that.
